UNITED NATIONS MEDITATION GROUP  ( aka U.N.M.G  ) - 

Chinmoy's Trojan Horse at the United Nations 

In 1971,  Chinmoy Kumar Ghose ( aka Sri Chinmoy ) had formed a meditation group in 1971 made up of disciples in the United Nations. It secured membership in the United Nations Staff Recreation Council. In 1977 the Meditation Group requested and received permission to use a modified version of the United Nations Emblem on its letterhead, accompanied by the words "United Nations -- The Heart -- Home of the World Body." However, when asked in 1978 to identify itself with the label "United Nations Staff Recreation Council" to indicate its recreation-oriented nature and avoid any misconception that it was an organ of the United Nations itself, the group refused and withdrew from the United Nations Staff Recreation Council.
In 1983 it adopted a new name , Sri Chinmoy Meditation at the United Nations. It has continued to be allowed to use meeting room facilities at the U.N. and uses the U.N. mailing address, in general presenting itself as an official mediator for the U.N.

U-THANT Peace award

The U-Thant peace award was created by Chinmoy out of nowhere in order to have Chinmoy meet important people , mostly people linked to the Political arena. A Ceremony was held within the United Nations building , most of the time, and a picture  was taken , a picture that would include Chinmoy and the targeted diplomat . The first fish caught using this technique was Zenon Rossides , Ambassador and permanent representative of Cyprus to the United Nations , in 1982 ; bigger fish would arrive like Kurt Waldeim ; the taken photographs would be used to promote the U Thant Peace award .

So this system - ponzi scheme - seems to have been quite successful until Chinmoy reputation was somewhat erroded by disciples' allegations of sexual misconduct , for instance in 2006 , Kofi Annan,  Secretary-general , rejected the U Thant Peace Prize ( the document is freely available on the UN website ). Kofi Annan had aleady refused to receive another prize from Chinmoy : Lifting up the world with a oneness-heart, in 2004.

It is important to remember that in 2001, Kofi Annan had received the Nobel peace prize . In 2002 chinmoy wrote a book about Kofi Annan ( Kofi Annan: cynosure-eyes ), maybe to win his heart ...

UN Staff Recreation Council (UNSRC)

The United Nations Staff Recreationas Council was formed in 1948. It has an Executive Committee and many clubs. It Aims at stimulate, coordinate, advise and assist all groups formed for the purpose of recreation, which groups are primarily composed of staff members and open for their participation as well as that of their families, retired staff members, delegation members, members of the press accredited to the United Nations, persons under contractual status with the United Nations, and members of organizations with United Nations accredited NGO status and their families.
